Autumn Games & Halloween Customs

This outdoor event lets you have fun with nature as children used to do by making toys using grains and playing games with acorns. Learn about Halloween customs and hear/participate in spooky stories that are appropriate for all ages. Help us scare the ghosts by coming in costume!
Rip Van Winkle

Celebrate Halloween with a beloved American ghost story. A unique performance of Rip Van Winkle will take place in the drawing room at Piatt Castle Mac-A-Cheek on Halloween weekend. Professional readers blend excerpts from Washington Irving's original 1819 short story with scenes from Joseph Jefferson's stage production, which toured for four decades at the cusp of the 20th century. Readers bring the story into the present with snippets from children's books published from the mid-late 20th through the early 21st centuries. This classic tale has an approximate running time of 50 minutes and is intended for adults and older youth.
